Islammed (Zameeni Haqaiq) The Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) in collaboration with USAID Pakistan, and the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore today launched the Pakistan Feedstuffs Database.
The database is an updated and authentic resource of livestock feed ingredients including grains, by-products, and fodder available in Pakistan. CEO Livestock and Dairy Development Board Dr. Fatah Ullah Khan and Director Office of Economic Growth and Agriculture USAID Pakistan Mark Tegenfeldt joined the virtual ceremony as guests of honor.
CEO LDDB Dr. Fatah Ullah Khan appreciated support by USAID for the improvement and development of the livestock sector in Pakistan. He said that the Feedstuff Database will benefit Pakistan’s livestock industry greatly. He said that the Government of Pakistan envisions initiating programs for livestock breed improvement through embryo transfer and allied reproductive technologies.
Federal Animal Husbandry Commissioner Dr. Khurshid appreciated USAID PAKISTAN, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore and technical team of Livestock and Dairy Development Board for developing Pakistan Feedstuff Database for the benefits of livestock industry of Pakistan. He further emphasizes to strengthen the collaboration of USAID Pakistan, other International agencies and LDDB for industrial led developing programs in livestock sector of Pakistan.
Feedstuffs nutrition values need to be accurate for optimized feed formulation which requires a consolidated feedstuff library based on authentic local data. Previously, the only available set of consolidated data was analyzed during late 60s and early 70s.
USAID-funded U.S-Pakistan Partnership for Agricultural Market Development (AMD) conducted an evaluation and validation of the available feedstuffs with consultation from senior nutritionists and experts in the industry. Feedstuff was then collected from different districts of the country, analyzed and tested at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore.
Senior officials from the Ministry of National Food Security, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, USAID, UVAS, LDDB, dignitaries from public and private sector institutions, progressive farmers, and feed manufacturers were also present at the virtual launch of the database.
