WASHINGTON(Web Desk,Zameeni haqaiq)The Pentagon said on\nThursday that a recent North Korean missile test was short- to a medium-range\nballistic missile that was fired from a sea-based platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Colonel Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for the Joint Chiefs of\nStaff, told reporters during a press conference that the missile flew about 280\nmiles (450 km) into the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the same briefing, Pentagon spokesman Jonathan\nHoffman said U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper and his Japanese counterpart\nagreed in a call on Thursday that North Korean tests are \u201cunnecessarily\nprovocative and do not set the stage for diplomacy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Korea fired what appeared to be a submarine-launched\nballistic missile, Seoul had said Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pyongyang frequently couples diplomatic overtures with\nmilitary moves, as a way of maintaining pressure on negotiating partners,\nanalysts say, and may believe this weapons system gives it added leverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States voiced alarm, with a State Department\nspokesperson calling on North Korea \u201cto refrain from provocations\u201d and \u201cremain\nengaged in substantive and sustained negotiations\u201d aimed at bringing stability\nand denuclearisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
