Islamabad (Zameeni Haqaiq)The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration’s Agriculture Department on Thursday distributed around 1,200 poultry birds among deserving families under Prime Minister’s ‘Backyard Poultry initiative.
The initiative is aimed at addressing stunted growth in poor households, providing nourishment, supplementing family incomes through sale of organic eggs, besides creating job and making women to participate in poverty alleviation.
The Directorate of Agriculture Extension Services (ICT) organized the distribution ceremony at Sohan Veterinary Hospital Islamabad. National Project Manager PMI Backyard Poultry Project Dr. Tabinda Khawaja, Director Agriculture Extension Services Waqar Anwar, Assistant Director Livestock ICT Dr. Mehmood Rashid, Media Officer Livestock Board Waleed Bin Mushtaq and others were present in the distribution ceremony.
Project Manager PMI BYP Dr. Tabinda Khawaja & Assistant Director Livestock ICT, Dr Mehmood Rashid conducted an informative and learning training session about disease management and better husbandry practices for backyard poultry Keepers.
After the training session almost 200 poultry units each comprised of six poultry birds (5 female and one male) were distributed among registered deserving families on 30pc government subsidy. Addressing to the distribution ceremony, Director AES said that ICT set a target to distribute 18,000 poultry birds during the current financial year.
He expressed the hope that people would get maximum benefit from the scheme aimed to materialize the vision of the Prime Minister for economic well-being of the poor.
